I'm moving in.... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
And I will be looking for a few friends of mind.!!
Military Service: Enlisted in April of 1960....first was bused to Ft. Knox, Kentucky and stayed only 24 hours. I was picked with approxiamtely 30 other recruits to be bused to Ft. Benning, Ga. the next day. Arrived at Ft. Benning and was assigned to the 2nd. Division, 1st. Battle Group, 11th. Infantry. This started a long process of training for 8 months. Shipped to ROK (Republic of Korea) in 1961 along with this special unit called "Ovurep" we all was part of. Arrived in ROK, and we couldn't believe our eyes. It was hard getting use to it at first, but after a few months you settled in. After 12 months, we received orders that the unit was being broken up. Everyone was assigned to other units and I went to Camp Casey, and stayed there until I completed by tour of duty in ROK. I ended up spending 16 months and 7 days...before getting shipped back to the states. Went to Fort Knox, Kentucky and completed by service there and was discharged from the military on April 12, 1963.
"Proud to Serve" and I would do it over again.!!
Now looking for any members who served in the same unit as I did. We never knew at that time, maybe one day we might want to have another meeting and talk about ROK, Ft. Benning, or good times.!!
Another Unit at Camp Casey
This Company Photo of the guys at Camp Casey, was | another outfit. But I added it to show some of the facilities we had in ROK. The Building behind the servicemen is a "Mess Hall", which is a place to eat for you that has never been in the military. Living Quarters, was on the same level, so when it got cold, you was cold, and when it got hot, you got hot. Also it gets -25 in ROK but feels like -50.
